What if you had the choice? If you could have a direct say and shape the course of events? Would this awaken your play instinct? Ester Ambrosino, choreographer and director of Tanztheater Erfurt, asked herself these questions. With her fifth production as part of the TanzWert project, which is made possible by funding from TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund, she is creating an interactive piece for the Erfurt and Weimar stages. In the first step, the audience is presented with set pieces that are to be linked together. It is up to the audience to influence the further course of the dance evening by means of live voting. Every evening will be performed by the same dancers, every evening will feature the same set, and yet every single performance will be different.
Ester Ambrosino’s considerations go back to Luigi Pirandelli’s stage play Six Persons in Search of an Author, which premiered in 1921, questioning illusionist theater and paving the way for modernity. There, as here, characters want to be led, the power of determination is transferred to a higher authority and one submits to fate, whatever its consequences.
