Darkland – steptext dance project

Choreography: Helge Letonja
Dance: Robert Bell, Hsuan Cheng, Augusto Jaramillo Pineda, Catherine Jodoin, Claudia Voigt
Composition/musik: Jörg Ritzenhoff

“Darkland” sketches the ambivalent beauty of decay. The piece is a danced look at the interactions between external changes and inner ruptures. With five dancers, Letonja follows the dark traces of beauty, searches through its shadow worlds, gives shape to the unseen and seeks form and transformation through dance in the fall and decay. In a subtle spatial and visual structure by visual artist Naoko Tanaka and the electro-acoustic soundscapes of composer Jörg Ritzenhoff, the dance tells of times past and times to come. Bones crack, membranes tear, weathering proliferates. Inner and outer architectures crumble – and through the cracks the ruins hum their song of new beginnings.
